Commodity Market Report
North America gas weekly update: Salt storage continues to drain
Report summary
For the seventh consecutive week, South Central salt storage fields are in withdrawal mode. The bloated salt inventories in mid-March stood 47% higher than the five-year average. With continued heat expected in the region into the second half of August, further storage reduction is expected. We expect the surplus to fall to 15% for the week ending 11 August. This weekly natural gas commodity report seeks to explore: • Will cooling degree days stay above normal? • Can power demand stay elevated? • Will market tightness reduce the overall storage surplus further?
