South and South East Asia countries will become the engine-room of long-term Asian demand. LNG demand from the region will grow over five times to reach 236 mmtpa by 2040. Almost half of that demand will come from the two big countries of Indonesia and India. Another set of five countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Singapore) will look towards LNG to backfill declining domestic pipeline production. We also see a set of emerging buyers (Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar, Sri Lanka) starting to import LNG between now and 2040. This presentation was given at Wood Mackenzie's Japan Gas Forum in Tokyo on Wednesday 26th June.
