Commodity Market Report
Thailand gas markets long-term outlook H1 2020
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
Coronavirus-induced lockdown measures have put a dent on power and industrial gas demand in the near term, but the continued dominance of gas in the power mix drives longer term gas demand growth. LNG plays an increasingly important role in the gas supply mix given declining Gulf of Thailand supply and piped imports from Myanmar. Gas market liberalisation has begun to take shape, with EGAT having imported its first cargo via TPA in December 2019, breaking PTT's long-held monopoly. Gulf Energy Development, Hin Kong Power and B.Grimm Power received LNG shipper licences in May 2020, as low spot and contracted LNG prices may have provided an impetus for the government to accelerate the process of gas market liberalisation.
