The Panama Canal expansion opened on 26 June, allowing for the first time most LNG carriers to use this time and cost saving route between the new LNG exporters in the US Gulf and the traditional markets of NE Asia. But will we see much traffic on this route? The convergence of regional gas prices, since most of the US Gulf export plants took FID, will see far less LNG flow on this route than was hoped.
