India’s LNG demand is set to surpass the 40 mmtpa mark by 2031-2032, driven by growth in the city gas distribution business and industrial sector. The gas demand for power will have limited growth due to competition from coal and renewables unless heatwaves continue to fuel peak power requirements. Domestic gas production is projected to peak in 2025 and then decline 9% annually until 2040, increasing India’s reliance on LNG imports. Key infrastructure developments, including new regasification terminals and pipeline expansions, will be essential to meeting the rising demand.
