European gas markets continue to see strong volatility (posting +100% followed by -50% through March), reflecting nervousness around Russia’s military action in Ukraine and risking of piped exports to Europe. Asian buyers require additional LNG, but high volatility and liquidity issues have disrupted the normal functioning of the LNG spot market. European prices returning to coal-switching levels depends largely on reliable Russian gas flows continuing over the coming months.
