Global gas prices have rallied since mid-July after the US-Iran interim peace agreement collapsed, ending several weeks of relative stability and restricted LNG transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Asian LNG imports continued their month-on-month growth in July, reaching levels broadly in line with last year. However, spot tendering activity slowed down due to elevated prices, after two record months in May and June. As geopolitical tensions persist, supply risks are likely to intensify inter-basin competition for LNG ahead of winter restocking. A strong El Niño event raises the prospect of a warmer-than-normal winter, which could provide some relief.
