Qatar adds a fourth mega-train to its LNG expansion plans

Report summary

Qatar Petroleum has announced plans to increase the capacity of its LNG expansion project, by adding a fourth 8 mmtpa liquefaction train. This will take the capacity of the expansion project to around 32 mmtpa and total Qatari LNG capacity to around 110 mmtpa, these projects are likely to be completed by the middle of the next decade. We think its motivations for the increase are; investing at a low point in the cost cycle, increasing economies of scale, maximisng LNG market share and driving international growth ambitions.
