The resurgence of the biggest buyers in LNG
Report summary
Northeast Asia’s seven largest LNG buyers are CNPC, CNOOC, Sinopec, KOGAS, CPC, JERA and Tokyo Gas. Collectively, they account for close to 70% of total Asian demand. After several quiet years, 2018 has seen them return to long-term contracting in a significant way. In this pack, we benchmark the positions of these major north east Asian buyers across a series of metrics. This includes their potential long-term demand, uncontracted demand, current cost of LNG (WACOG), procurement positions and strategic priorities. The accompanying pack (available to LNG Corporate Service clients), provides additional details of the individual companies including recent contracting activity, individual supply-demand balances and their expected procurement strategy to close their uncontracted gap.
