Chongqing became China's fourth municipality directly controlled by the central government in 1997 and it has the largest and most comprehensive industrial base in China's Western region. The provincial government has signalled strong policy support and continuous infrastructure investment in the next few years. Overall, Chongqing is forecast to be a high-growth province supported by further industrial expansion. Its GDP is projected to grow at a CAGR of 9.0% by 2035.
