Obama Administration moves forward with targeted sanctions against Caracas
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
On 18 December, US President Barack Obama signed the Venezuela Defence of Human Rights and Civil Society Act of 2014, introducing diplomatic sanctions against select Venezuelan government officials for their role in the deaths of protestors earlier this year. Venezuela had been previously sanctioned twice by the US, and the impact from this round of sanctions will be largely symbolic as the measures will not affect the oil and gas industry.
