Aprelkovo (Closed) gold mine
Report summary
Aprelkovo is Nordgold`s smallest gold mine and in 2015 accounted for 2% of the company`s annual gold production. It is a typical conventional open pit mine. The ore is treated via heap leaching. Previously gold was recovered from oxide and transitional ore types with gold recoveries averaging 64% and 57% respectively. More recently the plant has been treating primary sulphide ore which is not amendable to heap leaching and subsequently recoveries have fallen to less than 50%. The business unit of Aprelkovo was disposed by Nordgold in 2017 following the bankruptcy of the legal entity. All operations were suspended.
