ATI tariff exemption request on stainless slab imports denied

On April 24th, 2019 the US Department of Commerce denied ATI's request of March 27, 2018 to allow its imports of stainless steel slab from Tsingshan Indonesia to enter the USA without paying the 25% tariff imposed under Section 232 investigation rules. The partners involved have not yet publicly stated their plan of action following this decision by Commerce. Our view is that they will pursue to the full their original plan, albeit at a reduced margin because of the tariff.
