The Biden administration has announced that it is reinstating a 25% tariff on synthetic graphite imports from China, a move that has swiftly followed the announcement of tariffs on natural graphite. This more recent announcement will be in effect from 14 June, 2024, whereas the latter will be effective from 2026, reflecting the already established diversity of the synthetic graphite supply chain. The impact of this ruling will be felt more keenly than the previous announcement, given the US' relative consumption of the two graphite product families.
