Cominco Binani Zinc was founded in 1964 as a joint venture between the Binani family and Cominco of Canada. The initial capacity of the smelter was 14kt/a and it was built largely to Cominco design, with a Cominco flash roaster, neutral leaching only, and a tankhouse with manual stripping.
