The Bogoso/Prestea gold mine is located in western Ghana, 200km by road from capital Accra. Bogoso is made up of the Bogoso and Prestea mines. The Bogoso/Prestea complex was an open-pit operation until underground mining commenced at Prestea in 2017. The underground workings are extensive, reaching depths of 1,450m. The Bogoso/Prestea complex was expected to transition into an underground only operation following cessation of open pit mining activity in Q4 2018, however, the Company have continued to operate the open pit through 2020 due to issues encountered at the underground operation. The processing facility at Bogoso consists of two plants to process separately refractory and non-refractory ore. As the Prestea ore is non-refractory it is processed through a 1.5Mt/a conventional processing plant using carbon-in-leach to recover gold.
