The pursuit of sustainable transportation and energy generation will require enormous efforts from all participants across the supply chain. Li-ion batteries are expected to remain the key part of electrification considering their performance characteristics and investments already made by industry players across the world to develop production facilities capable of delivering hi-end battery cells. Even though announcements of new companies, EV models, and energy storage technologies are happening on a daily basis, we are still at the very beginning of the journey. Challenges are coming at each step of the production chain - from the need to develop new and scale up existing mine sites, through sulphate production, to precursor, cathode, and battery production - in order to meet the rapidly increasing demand coming from EV and energy storage sectors.
