The Chapada open pit Cu-Au mine started production in 2007. Mill capacity was upgraded to 24Mtpa and production is expected to continue at around this rate until 2050. The Chapada open pit consists of the Chapada Corpo Principal and Corpo Sul areas that come together as a single open pit. Lundin Mining Corporation acquired the site for a net cash consideration of $757 million in July 2019, with potential for additional fees dependent on the prevailing gold price. The Suruca open pit is a gold only deposit that is being considered for development.
