Asset Report
Escondida copper minesite
Report summary
Escondida holds a huge amount of reserves and resources. The mine is currently (2023) operating two open pits (Escondida and Escondida Norte) and since Q4 2017, after overcoming the significant water and power constraints, Escondida was able to operate its three concentrators. The 2023 capacity of the Los Colorados is 104-106kt/d; 130kt/d for Laguna Seca and 160kt/d ore for the OPG1 mill. For 2022 the total mill capacity was rated at 395kt/d ore but the real capacity depends on the hardness of the ore. Additionally, Escondida operates two leach pads; a 48kt/d oxide ore pad and a 220kt/d ROM sulphide ore for leaching. By 2023 Escondida reported huge amount of resources and reserves which in our opinion provides them, in the short, medium and long term, with operational flexibility for the management of copper production in both the concentrator and the leaching circuit.
