Commodity Market Report
Global lead short-term outlook July 2021
Report summary
A strong performance from lead this month, propelled by heightened concerns over supply as LME warehouses continue to be emptied of lead. Matters were made considerably worse when flooding forced the shutdown of a major European smelter. This helped the price to briefly breach the $2400/t barrier, hitting a three-year high, before retreating slightly to settle at $2396/t at the end of the month. The duration of the Berzelius, Stolberg, shutdown remains unclear at this time but we understand that damage was extensive and repairs will take at least several weeks.
