Commodity Market Report
Global nickel short-term outlook May 2020
Report summary
Recovery in financial markets, emergence from lockdown and post-pandemic ramp up in Chinese stainless kept nickel prices up in May. However, with an outlook of recession and the expectation of a substantial contraction in world demand, near-term nickel fundamentals are weak and prices are expected to fall from their current level. The one pillar of growth is stainless production in China, but even here there are downside risks.
