Report summary
Weak global cues and the Russia/Ukraine war weigh on the steel market outlook. The prolonged Russia/Ukraine war is resulting in soaring energy prices and global supply chain and trade disruptions. Chinese steel demand plunged following the property sector’s downfall. As a result, we have revised the Chinese consumption outlook downwards for 2022. Western economies are struggling with inflation woes and heightened risks of recession which will impact consumer spending. Strong demand growth in India will be overshadowed by the weakness in other major economies, causing global demand to decline in 2022. Global steel supply will mirror demand. Decarbonisation initiatives to start gaining momentum.
