Report summary

Access to raw materials such as bauxite and coal has hampered smelter and refinery capacity expansions in India over the last few years. Our analysis suggests that an improved outlook on bauxite and coal availability subsequent to the changes in the mining law could move India from a net short bauxite to a balanced to moderately long alumina surplus position in the medium term.
