It was announced by Urals Mining & Metallurgical Co (UMMC) in early 2006 that it would be building a new zinc smelter in the Sverdlov region of Russia, the actual location likely to be at Kirovgrad. The capacity was planned to be 150kt/a slab zinc and the estimated capital cost, US$325M.
