Kolomela iron ore mine

Report summary

Kolomela is located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The mine is operated by Kumba, who are 76.3% owned by Anglo American. The mine's production is comprised of 65% lump (at 65.0% Fe) and 35% fines (at 64.5% Fe) which is railed to Saldanha for export. The mine is a conventional drill and blast, truck and shovel, dry crush and screen operation, with ore sourced from three different pits. Kolomela started commercial production of direct shipping ore in 2011 and has now reached its production target of 14 Mtpa. We expect this level of production to be maintained for the life of the mine.
