Loulo-Gounkoto gold mine
Report summary
The Loulo-Gounkoto gold mine complex is comprised of the Yalea and Gara underground mines at Loulo, the Gounkoto open pit, several satellite deposits and the 5.1Mtpa Loulo processing plant. Gounkoto is an open pit operation that utilises conventional mining methods. Open pit mining commenced in January 2011 and ore shipments to the Loulo mill commenced mid-year. The plant consists of a two-stage crushing circuit next to the Gounkoto pit, producing a 120mm product, which is transported to the Loulo mill for processing. Loulo commenced operations in November 2005 and began as two open pit mines. Subsequently, the two underground mines have been developed at the Gara and Yalea deposits.
