Asset Report
Magnetation iron ore mine
Report summary
Magnetation is a closed surface mine initially owned by Magnetation Inc. The company was founded in 2006 by Al Fritz and Rod Hunt focusing on the development of a beneficiation technology that Fritz invented in the 1970s. In June 2019, four firms submitted bids to the Minnesota Bankruptcy Court for Magnetation's assets located in the state. Out of the four bids, two were deemed successful. Still, at the time of writing, part of Magnetation's future was still in limbo with Plant 4 located in Grand Rapids yet to find a suitable buyer. Magnetation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2015.
