Muruntau gold mine
Report summary
The Muruntau mine is an open pit operation that is regarded as one of the largest producers of gold in the world. The mine has been operating under state-owned Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combinat since the government nationalised the 50/50 Zarafshan-Newmont joint venture in 2006. The joint venture operation was processing accumulated stockpiles of low grade oxide material from the Muruntau gold deposit.
