Narrain is a small surface mine and is approximately 1,400 kilometres south-east of New Delhi in the Indian state of Karnataka. The mine is operated by Vedanta Limited, who are majority owned by Vedanta Resources. Operations at Narrain were suspended for two-years in 2012 and 2013 because of a state-wide ban on mining and then because of delays in renewing mining leases. Narrain re-started production in 2014 with a production quota of 2.3 Mtpa (dry) but this has now been increased to 4.5 Mtpa (dry). We expect this target to be reached in 2020. Average cash costs will fall with this higher level of production.
