Pedra de Ferro iron ore mine

Report summary

Pedra de Ferro is a mine located close to the city of Caetite in Bahia state, Brazil. It is 100% owned and operated by Bahia Mineracao (Bamin), a wholly-owned Brazilian subsidiary of ENRC (Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation). The mine commenced production in the first half of 2013, selling only into the domestic market. Pedra de Ferro is currently producing a mix of direct shipping ore (DSO) lump and fines, but will transition into a concentrate-only operation over the long term. In February 2018, Bamin, the government of Bahia state and three undisclosed Chinese companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by which the parties will start discussing the creation of a joint venture to finalise the construction of the East-West railway, build the Aritagua port and upgrade Pedra de Ferro's mine facilities.
