The EU revealed its long-awaited country- and product category-specific quota allocations on 30th June 2026, confirming the parameters flagged earlier: the annual quota is cut roughly in half, from 33 Mt to 18.35 Mt, while the out-of-quota tariff doubles from 25% to 50%. A new feature is the Free Trade Agreement-Most Favoured Nation (FTA-MFN) architecture which decides how the quotas are used up. Of the EU's 18.3 Mt annual quota, exactly half 9.15 Mt is reserved for FTA partners only. The other half is open to everyone, FTA or not, on an MFN basis.
