Varzea do Lopes iron ore mine

Report summary

Varzea do Lopes is a mid-sized iron ore surface mine situated in Brazil's Quadrilátero Ferrífero (QF) region, approximately 50 kilometres south of the city of Belo Horizonte. After Miguel Burnier's closure at the end of 2015, Varzea do Lopes is currently the only mine from Gerdau in operation. Though part of the mine's run-of-mine (ROM) production is now transferred to Miguel Burnier's facilities for processing. This has negatively impacted Varzea do Lopes' overall mining costs as the haulage distance between both mines is approximately 40 kilometres.
