The Western Australia Government announced that it would offer a magnetite royalty rebate that would allow miners to claim 50% of the royalty paid during their first year of production. Based on our analysis, we estimate that this rebate will only improve average magnetite project NPV by 2.7%. Additionally, the proposed rebate would increase the IRR of magnetite projects by less than 0.1%.
