Wood Mackenzie has updated its estimate of cost support for bauxite mines, alumina refineries and aluminium smelters. We have adjusted our assessment of present-day cost inputs across the value chain such as oil and caustic soda prices. This update uses a metal price of US$1470/t for China and world ex-China and an alumina price of $260/t in China and $224/t in world ex-China. The result is a set of new alumina and aluminium cost curves that provide a better understanding of the health of the aluminium industry today.
