Asset Report
Zouerate System iron ore mine
Report summary
The Zouerate System includes the Kedia and M'Haoudat mines. The mines are owned and operated by Mauritania's state-owned mining company, SNIM. Mining occurs across five pits with an average raw ore grade of 56% Fe. At current prices, the Zouerate System would be profitable, which will support ongoing production but also pressure management at SNIM to increase wages, an ongoing issue for the operator. Due to its geographic location, SNIM had been ideally placed to sell its ore into Europe, but with stagnant steel demand in the EU, sales to China have increased year on year and are now at 65% of total sales.
