US ethane exports set to grow in 2022 on expanding fleet and China looks to benefit

Report summary

As the US ethane supply has grown in recent years, so has the appetite for ethane from international markets looking for a cheap feedstock for their existing and ethane cracker projects. To make US ethane recovery economic and flow to far destination demand centers like India and China, new marine terminal capability as well as a new type of shipping vessels, called Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLEC) capable of holding more than 500,000 barrels of ethane, had to be constructed.
