The Vøring Basin is situated on the Mid Norwegian Shelf at latitudes greater than 62° north. This predominantly gas-prone hydrocarbon province extends out from the shelf to waters deeper than 2,000 metres. Much of the exploration to date has focused on the Early to Middle Jurassic sandstone sequence in the shelf area of the basin, but in recent years attention has also turned to the exploration potential of the emerging Late Cretaceous and Paleogene sandstones in deeper waters.
