Highlights from the Madrid Power & Renewables Briefing 2026

Wood Mackenzie's Madrid office hosted the sixth edition of its annual Power & Renewables industry briefing on September 8th, 2026. Analysts from across our Power & Renewables and Gas & LNG teams presented at the event, sharing Wood Mackenzie's current analysis of the Spanish market within the context of regional dynamics. The opening session focused specifically on the role of gas in the Spanish power market, and delved into the regional LNG market against the backdrop of disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. This was followed by an updated view of the Iberian power market, including our outlook for power prices, future capacity build-out, and analysis of technical curtailment. The final presentation gave an overview of the Spanish battery storage market, highlighting trends in hybridisation as well as insight into tolling contracts.
