To speed up the power development process, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) approved two new regulations on 12 January 2015. The swift announcements signify the priority given by the new government to the energy sector amidst the country’s looming power capacity shortage. The approved projects in the power development plan (RUPTL), if delivered on time, would immediately solve the power shortage scenario and double the existing capacity in four years.
