Insight from Vietnam Solar Expo 2019: Curtailment will remain a critical issue, but growth opportunities remain significant
Report summary
This insight summarizes the content from the Vietnam Solar Conference & Expo 2019 held in Hanoi, Vietnam (25-27 September). Vietnam’s 2020 solar target is set at 850MW. However, in H1 2019 Vietnam managed to install ~4.5 GW of solar capacity under the FIT program. The massive installations, particularly in the south, have led to high levels of curtailment. Foreign and local investors are awaiting the next FIT announcement to jump into this expanding market.
