PJM DER demand response activity 2019: Overview of market activity and implications for summer 2020
Report summary
In 2019, DERs as a percentage of total DR remained steady at 15% of total capacity, dominated by diesel and natural-gas gensets (85% and 14%, respectively). These are resources which receive emergency capacity credits. 2019 saw an increase in non-emergency resources registered, bringing the total available behind-the-meter-generation capacity in PJM to 2,528 MW, a total that is more than double of what cleared in the capacity market. This report provides a summary of PJM’s distributed energy resources as demand response over the past four years.
