Renewables continue to invade the interconnection queues in North America
Report summary
This insight is an update of our November 2018 release, Queue the energy transition, literally. In the previous insight, we analysed the interconnection queues of all NERC ISOs/RTOs, as well as five major non-RTO balancing authorities to visualize the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables. This update revisits the current state of the energy transition through the North American interconnection queues. However, this exercise is not simply a routine data refresh; we have dramatically expanded the view of the non-RTO regions by collecting data from 18 balancing authorities and aggregating this data into regional views. As such, the update provides valuable transparency into the energy transition in these often overlooked “data deserts.” We also map projects in the queue, providing insightful geographic context to the data.
