Utility sponsors abandon V. C. Summer Nuclear Expansion
This report is currently unavailable
Report summary
On July 31, the utility sponsors South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) and Santee Cooper decided to discontinue construction of two new units at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station and plan to abandon the project. Cancellation of the project will dramatically alter the future generating mix in South Carolina, creating opportunities for both gas-fired generation and solar to meet long-term supply needs, especially under any sort of long-term decarbonization scenario.
