Majority state-owned Grupa LOTOS is Poland's second largest downstream oil player. Its primary asset is the Gdansk refinery on the Baltic Sea coast - a highly competitive facility which is receiving further investment in its upgrading capacity. On the other hand, LOTOS lacks access to the key inland oil product pipeline infrastructure which puts the company at a relative disadvantage in supplying the Polish market relative to its rival PKN Orlen. The surplus is addressed by export sales to other countries and LOTOS is expanding its fuel sales network in Poland.
