Report summary
Colombia is the top coal producing country in South America. The coals are largely Cretaceous to Tertiary in age and are low in sulphur, ash, and potentially hazardous air pollutants. There are at least eight coal fields with large CBM potential. Currently, two coal mining companies, Carbones del Cerrejón (Cerrejón) and Drummond are interested and have developmental plans to extract CBM.
