Report summary
The Alam El Shawish West Block is located in the Abu Gharadig Basin in the Western Desert. Vegas Oil and Gas was awarded the block in the second EGPC Bid Round of 2004 after offering an unprecedented US$41 million signature bonus. The acreage included two undeveloped discoveries - GPAA (now Al Karam) and Najm - made by GPC in the 1980s. The operator successfully appraised the Al Karam discovery and made five further discoveries: Al Assil, Al Barq, Bahga, Al Magd and C-86 that have all been brought onstream. The Assil and Karam project, to develop the gas and condensate reserves in those fields, was sanctioned in 2012 and includes up to six new wells and a new processing facility. First production from the new facility was achieved in November 2014.
