Asia-Pacific upstream started the year with a busy January: India and China launched exploration bid rounds, while Indonesia concluded its 2017 bid round. Shell exits Thailand, selling its interest in Bongkot to PTTEP, after it cancelled a deal for the same concession with KUFPEC in October. In India, ONGC is set to merge with refiner Hindustan Petroleum in a US$5.8 billion deal. In Indonesia, PGN's shareholders approved the first step for a merger with PERTAMINA.
