The Bangkanai PSC lies in a remote area of central Kalimantan, it contains two gas discoveries, Kerendan and the recent West Kerendan find. Kerendan was initially discovered in October 1982 by Unocal (when the area was under the now-expired Teweh PSC), but the field lay stranded and undeveloped for nearly three decades due to its location and the lack of a nearby market.
