Report summary
Bangkanai PSC is located in Central Kalimantan, around 200 kilometres from the coastal city of Balikpapan in East Kalimantan. The block contains two gas discoveries - Kerendan and West Kerendan - of which only the Kerendan field is currently developed and producing. The Kerendan field was developed to supply the PLN-owned Bangkanai Power Plant (Bangkanai PLTMG), which has remained the sole gas buyer since production started in 2016. In May 2019, Medco Energi obtained an operated 70% interest in the field by acquiring Ophir Energy.
