The Belayim fields are located along the eastern shore of the Gulf of Suez. The two largest fields are the giant Belayim Land and Belayim Marine fields, discovered in 1955 and 1961 respectively. These two fields are among the key oil fields in the Gulf of Suez that have underpinned Egyptian oil production since the 1970s. The fields are operated by Eni's Egyptian JV, Petrobel. Production has been in gradual decline since a peak of 235,000 b/d in 1993. However, Eni continues to manage the decline through continuous development drilling and secondary recovery techniques.
