Block 09-3/12 is located in shallow waters of the Cuu Long Basin and neighbours Block 09-1 that contains Vietnam's largest oilfield, Bach Ho. The block was awarded to operator Vietsovpetro in 2012 from a relinquished area of Block 09-3, previously contracted to VRJ Petroleum. Vietsovpetro discovered the Ca Tam field in 2014.
